Vice President of Operations
David O’Brien has nearly 40 years of successful business experience, including 30 years of leading marketing, planning and strategy initiatives and programs, many across the globe. His exceptional ability to gather, synthesize and present information propelled projects on to their successful conclusion.
David leads the operations and business development efforts at Thomas & Reed and serves as president of T&R Construction Services. He is the account manager for 16 Tech Community Corporation and has participated on several audit jobs.
He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. After graduating, Mr. O’Brien was hired at Cummins Inc., where he held numerous positions for over 35 years initially in service engineering and account management. He then went on to help define the role of a program manager where he helped manage eight very successful projects which accounted for more than $10 billion in sales and $2 billion in profit over their entire lifecycle.
David excels at identifying processes, tools and approaches to solving problems or meeting goals. He developed proactive intelligence processes to gather, analyze and assess business and market intelligence identified, as a best practice by a national business consulting and market research firm.
Mr. O’Brien was asked to establish a team to drive the CEO/Chairman’s corporate sustainability initiative. David wrote the company’s vision and mission statements for product sustainability and efficiency efforts. He developed the plan for product innovation, process optimization, and goal measurement. The project saved customers $2.2 billion in fuel over a three-year period which increased customer satisfaction and the likelihood of repeat buying by 58%. As a result of his outstanding work, Mr. O’Brien was the lead story in the company’s 2015/2016 Annual Sustainability Report.
